Ceremonies across languages, cultures, and inner worlds.
In German, English, or bilingually
With Monika Strell – German-speaking wedding celebrant for Europe & the UK, legally recognised ceremonies in Scotland, and symbolic ceremonies everywhere else

In Scotland, I can officiate legally recognised weddings. Outside Scotland—in England, elsewhere in the UK, or across Europe—I offer symbolic ceremonies that are carefully planned, personal, and heartfelt.
Working beyond Scotland feels like a natural extension of my work, shaped by many years of experience with German-speaking and bilingual couples, and by a life lived across countries, cultures, and languages. You can read more about my background and path on the About page.
Wherever your ceremony takes place:
Every word, gesture, and nuance reflects your story. You might choose to include rituals, or focus entirely on your love story—whatever feels right for you. I guide you through the ceremony with care, so everything feels coherent and unforced.
These ceremonies are for you if…
... You speak German or would like a bilingual ceremony (German & English), so your story, your words, and the subtle nuances are truly understood.
... You come from different countries, cultures, or family backgrounds and are looking for a celebrant who understands your story in its full context. Whether you live abroad or are bringing different traditions together, your ceremony should connect rather than simplify.
... You want a ceremony that feels genuinely personal and individual—created around you, not based on a template.
German is my native language, and I live and work in Scotland, with over two decades of experience in English language and culture. This creates ceremonies where language, transitions, emotions, and nuances flow naturally—and where everyone present feels included and at ease.
If you’re particularly curious about how a bilingual ceremony can flow, with smooth transitions, clear structure, and a natural rhythm, I’ve described it in detail in a separate article.

What to expect when working with me
A ceremony that feels like you
No fixed scripts, no prescribed roles. Just a space where you can show up as yourselves.
Time and care for your story
I take the time to really get to know you—not only your story, but also your dynamic as a couple: how you communicate, what matters to you, where you feel grounded, and where you might still be finding your way. From these conversations, your ceremony takes shape, whether it’s a symbolic celebration or a legally recognised wedding.
Calm or lively. Clear or poetic.
With lightness, depth, or both. I hold the space during the ceremony itself, guide its rhythm, and make sure transitions flow and words land naturally. This allows you to stay present and focused on what matters most: each other and the moment you’re sharing.
If you’d like a clear overview of the ceremony flow, responsibilities, possible formalities, or pricing, you’ll find all of this information gathered under FAQ & Ceremony Flow.
"Monika tailored our bilingual ceremony in Scotland perfectly to us. Every nuance of our story came through, and our guests felt included from the very beginning."

Your Ceremony, Personal and Unique
Language is key when it comes to sharing your story and emotions authentically. Whether you are German-speaking or bilingual, celebrating in your own language allows your ceremony to remain intimate, personal, and true to who you are, especially in an English-speaking country.

"Monika guided us as our celebrant during our free ceremony on the Scottish coast, making the day truly unforgettable for us! Coordination with her beforehand was seamless, and from our conversations, she crafted a beautiful and deeply personal ceremony speech. Monika’s approach is relaxed yet professional, warm, and reassuringly calm. We can wholeheartedly recommend her to any couple looking for a truly special guiding presence on their most important day. Thank you for everything, dear Monika!"
— Larissa & Basti
The best way to understand a ceremony is to experience one, or at least to be invited into it for a moment. Stories show how different, personal, and alive a ceremony can be. Some couples choose small symbolic elements, while others keep things simple, always in a way that feels right for them.
